Free help, now

These organisations give free information and support. Contact one of them first.

Short answer

If you are in danger or need help now, start with these free numbers and pointers.

Information, not legal advice. MovItaly is not a law firm. Check with the questura or consulate before you act.

If you are in danger now

Call 112, the single emergency number. It is free and works without a SIM or credit. Say your location and the word you know best: "police", "ambulance" or "help".

If you experience violence or are afraid of someone

Call 1522, the national line for violence and stalking. It is free and answers in several languages. See also protection-trafficking-violence.

If you want to ask for asylum

You have the right to ask for international protection, even without documents. You do not need to pay anyone. Read protection-how-to-apply.

Free legal help

Free and confidential help exists. See protection-free-help-directory and the UNHCR Italy help site (https://help.unhcr.org/italy/).
